Every child is unique, and their strengths and needs are different. With over fifteen years of experience in child psychotherapy, Lia Khalili (Child and Youth Psychotherapist) can accompany you to understand your child and enter his/her world. By appreciating the impact of experiences in children’s early years, she helps children to overcome challenges and develop new skills to be equipped for making a brighter future. Play-based methods readily put children at ease resulting in greater cooperation which supports the children in meeting treatment goals. Lia Khalili has the skills to assess your child from different perspectives to better determine how best to support your child. Rather than simply addressing superficial issues, she believes in treating the roots of problems.
Child therapy sessions usually start with a virtual/ in-person session with parents. During this session, Lia Khalili conducts an in-depth interview with parents to formulate working hypotheses about why their child is experiencing the challenges they face at this time.
For children under 3 years of age, Lia Khalili usually has Parent-Child play therapy alongside parent counseling and guidance. Parent-Child Play therapy is regular play therapy with the parent present in the room as a participant or co-therapists. By using the power of play, the therapist makes a trusty and supportive relationship with your child. By observing the therapy process, parents can learn how they can make bonds with their children and how they can strengthen the effectiveness of therapy at home.
The foundation of cognitive behavioral therapy is the idea that our actions and thoughts have an impact on how we feel. We may change our emotions by altering distorted thought patterns and dysfunctional behavior. It can be most beneficial to start with the behavioral component of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when working with younger children.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for children has practical applications in daily life. Your youngster will learn how to identify their negative thought patterns and how to change them for more constructive ones with the aid of this therapy. A child can learn how to react differently and reduce stressful situations rather than make them worse by learning fresh perspectives.
This kind of therapy might give your youngster practical tips for enhancing their current situation. They can carry these new talents with them throughout their life as they develop into habits.
Children who use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can gain control over:

Play therapy is a psychotherapy method that focuses on assisting children aged 3 to 12 in exploring their lives and freely expressing repressed thoughts and emotions through play.
The goal is to teach kids how to express themselves in healthier ways, how to be more respectful and empathetic, and how to handle problems in new and more constructive ways.
Play therapy can help children with social or emotional problems improve their communication, adjust their behavior, develop problem-solving abilities, and form positive relationships with others. It is appropriate for children who are experiencing or seeing difficult life events such as a significant illness or hospitalization, domestic violence, abuse, trauma, a family crisis, or an unsettling shift in their environment. Children with academic and social difficulties, learning difficulties, behavioral disorders, anxiety, depression, grief, or anger, as well as those with attention deficit disorders or on the autism spectrum, can benefit from play therapy.

Children's art therapy is a therapeutic approach that utilizes the creative process of making art to help children express themselves, process emotions, and develop coping skills. Through the use of various art materials and techniques, children can communicate and make sense of their inner world in a non-verbal way, making it especially effective for children who may have difficulty expressing themselves verbally.
