If you make an appointment for your child, the first session is usually arranged with both or one of the parents virtually. During this session, the required information will be gathered and a therapy plan will be discussed at the of the session. In some cases, Lia Khalili, our child psychotherapist, may ask you to arrange an in-person session and bring your child for the first session, so she can observe and make a better treatment plan for her/him.
If you make an appointment for yourself, you are welcome to start to share your story and talk about your goals and expectations at the initial session.
All our conversations are confidential
Yes, your extended health care benefits plan may fully or partially cover the service fees. Please check your benefits plan, under ‘counseling services, for information regarding coverage for services provided by a "registered psychotherapist" “registered social worker” or “registered psychologist". You will be provided with an invoice to submit to your insurance company.
You can ask for both in-person and online sessions. However, parents and adults are suggested to book online sessions, due to current situations. A Registered Psychotherapist/ Psychologist follows professional practice standards so you can be assured that you can explore areas that may feel challenging in a confidential setting where there are clear and professional boundaries (CRPO 2021). You can be assured that the professional has extensive formal training, knowledge, and experience in their declared area of expertise and maintains an annual program of continuing education.
A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required if a session has to be canceled. You may be charged in full for the session fee. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency.
Currently, psychotherapy in Ontario remains subject to HST. More information on this topic can be found here: https://stoptaxingmytherapy.com
Your goals will determine how many sessions you require. Some clients simply need a few sessions to get some tools and get things off their chests, while others stayed for months because they value the constant support in their life.

Psychiatrist
A medical professional who specialises in mental health is a psychiatrist. To treat mental problems, doctors typically give psychiatric drugs. Psychiatric services are primarily beneficial when you require medicine or pharmacotherapy.
Counsellor
Counsellors can come from a variety of backgrounds. They may call themselves "therapists" or "counsellors" without necessarily having any formal training in the diagnosis or treatment of mental health problems. Titles like "licensed/Registered Clinical Counsellor" do not imply that a person has undergone official training or regulation. Counsellors are not regulated under the health professions act in Ontario..
The importance of providing counseling, especially at a specific time of life, to prevent deteriorating individuals' mental health motivates us to provide affordable counseling for those who cannot afford therapy costs at a specific period of their life. Please let us know if you need any adjustments to the session fee.
