Do you offer direct billing?

At Bright Start Bright Future, we offer hassle-free direct billing to make your mental health care journey easier.

Our Direct Billing Availability

  • We support direct billing with various insurance providers.
  • Clients with extended health benefits can have their counselling sessions billed directly.
  • For insurers that support direct billing, we handle all paperwork.
  • If your insurer doesn't offer direct billing, we provide detailed receipts for reimbursement.

How Does Direct Billing Work?

  1. Check Coverage: Verify with your insurer that they cover counselling with Registered Clinical Counsellors.
  2. Share Details: Provide your insurance information during booking.
  3. We Handle Billing: After your session, we bill your insurance provider directly.
  4. Settle Any Remaining Amounts: Your insurance processes payment according to your plan.

How much does a psychotherapy session cost?

The typical fee for each 50-minute session is $150 plus tax. Payment will be collected at the time of service, before or directly after the session.

You can use the info@bsbf.ca email address to e-transfer the fee for the session ($150 plus HST = $169.50 per 50 minutes) before or directly after the session. Once we receive your payment, we will be able to issue you an invoice. You can also pay through the platform with your credit card and receive your invoice right away.

How long is a session?

Appointments are 50 minutes and it costs $150+tax.

What to expect in your first counseling session?

If you make an appointment for your child, the first session is usually arranged with both or one of the parents virtually. During this session, the required information will be gathered and a therapy plan will be discussed at the of the session. In some cases, Lia Khalili, our child psychotherapist, may ask you to arrange an in-person session and bring your child for the first session, so she can observe and make a better treatment plan for her/him.

If you make an appointment for yourself, you are welcome to start to share your story and talk about your goals and expectations at the initial session.

Are the sessions confidential?

 All our conversations are confidential

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, your extended health care benefits plan may fully or partially cover the service fees. Please check your benefits plan, under ‘counseling services, for information regarding coverage for services provided by a "registered psychotherapist" “registered social worker” or “registered psychologist". You will be provided with an invoice to submit to your insurance company.

Do you offer in person or online sessions?

You can ask for both in-person and online sessions. However, parents and adults are suggested to book online sessions, due to current situations. Children and youth, especially at their first session are recommended to have in-person sessions to make better relationships during their first session with the therapist.

Do I need a referral?

You don't need a referral from a doctor.

What does it mean to be registered professional (e.g., registered psychotherapist)?

A Registered Psychotherapist/ Psychologist follows professional practice standards so you can be assured that you can explore areas that may feel challenging in a confidential setting where there are clear and professional boundaries (CRPO 2021). You can be assured that the professional has extensive formal training, knowledge, and experience in their declared area of expertise and maintains an annual program of continuing education.

What is your cancellation policy?

A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required if a session has to be canceled. You may be charged in full for the session fee. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency.

How many sessions will I need?

Your goals will determine how many sessions you require. Some clients simply need a few sessions to get some tools and get things off their chests, while others stayed for months because they value the constant support in their life.

What is the difference between Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and Psychotherapists?

Psychotherapist
The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) is the organisation where psychotherapists in Ontario register. A psychotherapist is a specialist in talk therapy for the treatment of mental problems.

Psychologist
The College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) is where "psychologists" are registered in Ontario. They are qualified to diagnose and treat mental health conditions.

Psychiatrist
A medical professional who specialises in mental health is a psychiatrist. To treat mental problems, doctors typically give psychiatric drugs. Psychiatric services are primarily beneficial when you require medicine or pharmacotherapy.

Counsellor
Counsellors can come from a variety of backgrounds. They may call themselves "therapists" or "counsellors" without necessarily having any formal training in the diagnosis or treatment of mental health problems. Titles like "licensed/Registered Clinical Counsellor" do not imply that a person has undergone official training or regulation. Counsellors are not regulated under the health professions act in Ontario..

Do you offer affordable counselling services?

The importance of providing counseling, especially at a specific time of life, to prevent deteriorating individuals' mental health motivates us to provide affordable counseling for those who cannot afford therapy costs at a specific period of their life. Please let us know if you need any adjustments to the session fee.
